Consecutive interpreting is a time-shifted verbal translation of coherent sections of speech of up to 10 minutes. During a pause of the speaker, the interpreter delivers the concise and structured section of speech into the required language, using notes taken during the speech.

Consecutive interpreting prolongs the discussion significantly, and is most commonly requested on ceremonious occasions, for high official functions or cultural events.
